David Charles "DOC" Holtz
Madison- David Charles "DOC" Holtz, Age 62, died on Monday, August 4th peacefully at home.
David was born in 1952. In 1953 he was adopted by Carroll and Eunice Holtz. Shortly after, he had a sister "Barbara Jean and a brother Mark Henry". In grade school he was very active in the scouts. He attended Deforest High school later on. While in high school he loved playing football, baseball, chorus and junior rodeo.
In 1972, he joined the Navy Reserves. He was stationed in Millington, TN, San Diego, CA and Vietnam. He was with the medical training - company 4th division in Madison. He was later discharged in 1975. In 1979 he had a daughter Jeannie Marie Kern while he was living in Washington. In the 1980's He was with the pontoon boat program through the MSCR. In 1983-1991, David was with the Coast Guard Auxiliary. From 1983-1993 JJ and David were the instructors for Boaters Safety Course. Later he was a dispatcher at Benders Taxi Co. He then became a part time employee at Mendota Hospital as well as becoming a EMT for the Hazel Green EMS. He worked a little bit for UW Hospital, and was active with the American Red Cross Disaster Service from 1990-2005., he was also an active member with The American Legion Post 501 in Madison from 1997 - Present.
In 1982 he married Cheryl Kelly, and became father to George.
David had many goals growing up. One thing he wanted to make sure is that if someone needed something. He would try to see what he could do to help. He once told his son that, "if you want do the right thing for people it starts with the heart." He also says that, "for all the family and friends that are grieving to not grieve a lot. He is in a better place, as he is with Cheryl, the one he loves a lot".
David is survived by his son George (Kate) and Baby Beau Allen of Stoughton; Parents Eunice and Carroll Holtz of Sun Prairie; Sister Barb (John) O'Connell Menomonee Falls; and Brother Mark of Colorado, Justin and Jean Kramer of Madison; and many other family and friends as well.
David was cremated by Cress Funeral Home out of Dane County (Middleton, and McFarland).
Memorial service will be held on August 17th, 2014 At American Legion POST 501. 105 Dempsey Rd, Madison, WI. Service is from 10 am to 1pm and will conclude with a meal.
