David M. Hornung age 60 of Verona left this world Thursday, September 8, 2022 at home surrounded by his family. The son of Frances “Minnie” Hornung and Howard Hornung, Dave was born January 23, 1962 in Madison WI. David married the love of his life, Melissa on July 21, 1990. Six months later the second love of his life, Markie K. Hornung, was born.
Dave started locksmithing at the age of 14 which led to him owning & operating his own successful business, The Locksmiths. For 32 years, alongside his wife, Dave dedicated his life to his family and his business. David was a helper, a life saver. If you needed anything, he would come running without a second thought. Dave was a personable man that could make a friend out of anyone with a single conversation that he would continue forever if given the chance. David was the best father to his daughter Markie, a dog dad to his Bray, and husband to Melissa. He is the key to our hearts.
David is survived by his wife, Melissa Hornung; daughter Markie Hornung; his siblings Howard Hornung, Pat Neal, Marie Bates, Tammy (Bill) Risler along with many nieces & nephews and as Dave would say his adopted daughter Rachel “Ray” Brown. He is preceded in death by his parents Howard and Frances Hornung, his Godmother Irene Reed, and his brother Paul Hornung.
Visitation attire upon Dave’s request is any and all Packers or Badgers gear. Casual wear is perfect for the service as well.
A Celebration of Dave’s life will be held at NOON on Friday, September 16, 2022 at the Cress Center, 6021 University Avenue, Madison, WI. A visitation will be held Thursday afternoon from 5 until 7 pm and on Friday from 11 until the time of service. A reception will follow.
Burial will be held privately at a later date at Forest Hill cemetery.
