Deerfield/Cottage Grove- David R. Molstad, age 72, passed away peacefully on Thursday, June 30, 2011 at the Skaalen Home due to complications following a courageous battle with Alzheimer's. He was born in Ettrick on April 5, 1939 the son of Roy and Ruby (Davis) Molstad. David grew up on a farm in Ettrick, attended a one room school house in Hegg and graduated from Blair High School. On January 27, 1962 he married Jeri Jessie in Milwaukee. David was involved in the electrical trades all of his life and was a lineman for WP&L/Alliant Energy. He was very proud to obtain his Master Electrician license. Dave made many contributions to the Deerfield community over the years that he lived there. But, one of Dave's many important career accomplishments was when he headed the Deerfield Municipal Electric Company and was very instrumental in the successful transfer to what is now Alliant Energy. This transfer allowed Deerfield the long-term benefits of industrial development. Although David mostly enjoyed working he also enjoyed the Packers and Badgers, NASCAR, horse pulls and spending time with his family especially over a wonderful meal Jeri prepared. David had a great admiration for Vince Lombardi. Later in life David took comfort in attending church and walking his beloved ""white dog"" Pebbles. He is survived by his wife of 49 years, Jeri; daughter, Cindy Farnsworth; son, J.D. (Gina) Molstad; five grandchildren, Lindsay and Lauren Farnsworth and Joe, Katie and Larissa Molstad; sisters, Phyllis Nanstad and Rosalie Beaty; brother, Dan (Cyndi) Molstad; and many nieces, nephews, relatives and friends. David was preceded in death by his parents; and infant son, Christopher. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM on Tuesday, July 5, 2011 at Deerfield Lutheran Church, 206 Main Street, Deerfield, with Rev. Larry Sexe officiating. A horse drawn wagon will take David to his place of rest in Deerfield Lutheran Cemetery. Friends and relatives are invited to a luncheon at the church following the burial. Visitation will be held from 9:00 AM until the time of services Tuesday at church. Memorials may be made to the Alzheimer's Association, 10 E. Doty Street, Suite 800, Madison, WI, 53703, or to Deerfield Lutheran Church. A special thank you to the staffs of St. Mary's Hospital, Skaalen Home and HospiceCare Inc. for their wonderful care of David. ""The difference between great and little men is in energy, in the strong will, in the settled purpose, and in the invincible determination."" Vince Lombardi.
