David Joseph Richgels

August 20, 1960 — November 4, 2008

Middleton -- David Joseph Richgels, age 48 passed away unexpectedly on November 4, 2008 at his home. He was born August 20, 1960 at St. Mary's Hospital, Madison. David was the son of Melvin and Leora (Drager) Richgels, Cross Plains. He is survived by his mother, four brothers, John, Bob, Jim (Janine) and Ken and six sisters, Leone, Jane, Mary (Manual), Betty (Edward), Donna, Kathy (Colin) and close friend Debbie Dangerfield. David is further survived by nineteen nieces and nephews and four great nephews and nieces, his uncles Gilbert Drager and Charles O'Brien his aunts Gail Drager, Eudelma Richgels and Anna Mae Richgels. He was preceded in death by his father, Melvin, January 23, 1978, sister-in-law Linda (John), August 12, 2004, and two baby nephews, Trevor and Tyler. David worked at The Bank of Middleton during his high school and college years. After graduating from college he was employed at Cuna Mutual until his death (25 years). He enjoyed volleyball and coached at West High School and Middleton High School for several years. David enjoyed puzzles and games of all sorts, especially trivia contests. He loved roller coasters and often traveled twice a year to Ceder Point, Ohio, to ride the assorted coasters there. He loved music of all sorts, Bob Dylan and Van Morrison being a couple of his favorites. Gardening was another of his hobbies and he had more than thirty varieties in his yard. His biggest joy was family get-togethers and spending time with his nieces and nephews. He always kept a big jar of M&M's for when they came to visit. A Memorial Gathering for family and friends will be held Friday, November 14, 2008 from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM at CRESS FUNERAL HOME, 6021 University Avenue, Madison. A special family memorial service is planned for a later date. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in David's name for girl's volleyball scholarships or girl's volleyball camp at Middleton High School, 2100 Bristol Street, Middleton, WI 53562.
