Middleton -- David James Riddle, age 83, of Madison, passed away on Wednesday, Mar. 3, 2010, at Meriter Hospital, with his family by his side. David was born on Aug. 5, 1926, in Lodi, the fifth of eight children to Alonzo and Alta (nee Hook) Riddle. He was united in marriage to the former Irene Carrie Borchardt on Dec 13, 1953. David was a veteran of the U. S. Army. David enjoyed doing word search puzzles and playing cards, especially gin rummy and euchre with family and friends. Â He is survived by two sons, James Sr. (Rose) Riddle of Middleton, Jeffery (Connie) Riddle of Dalton; a daughter Sharon (Michael) Marten of Madison; a son-in-law Roger Theis of Waterloo; four sisters, Hazel Buchanan of Lodi, Frances Klassy of International Falls, Minn., Freida Schroeder of Madison, and Ferne (Donald) Hughes of Zephyr Hills, Fla.; ten grandchildren, Debbie (Gerald) Brown of Madison; James Jr. (Michelle) Riddle of Montello; Julia Riddle of Madison; Daniel and Jonathon Marten of Madison; Elizabeth Marten of Avondale, AZ; Cassandra Theis of Waterloo and Amy, Jamie and J. R. Riddle of Dalton ; and 12 great-grandchildren. Â He was preceded in death by his wife Irene on Apr. 9, 1999; both his parents; brothers, Ernest and Gordon Riddle; half sisters, Sylvia (George) Kamrath and Bessie (Otto) Obert, a daughter Carrie (Roger) Theis and a great-granddaughter Krista Riddle. Funeral services for David J. Riddle will be held on Monday, Mar. 8, 2010, at 11:00 a.m. at GRACE LUTHERAN CHURCH, 1 S. Rosa Rd., Madison. Following the service, a luncheon will be held at the church. Burial will follow at the Mt. Pleasant Cemetery in Lodi. Friends and relatives are invited to call on Sunday, Mar. 7, 2010, from 4 p.m. - 7 p.m. at the CRESS FUNERAL HOME at 6021 University Ave., Middleton, and on Monday at Grace Lutheran from 10:00 a.m. until time of services at 11:00 a.m.
