David Shafer

Madison - David C. "Dave" Shafer, age 66 passed away far too soon following a courageous battle with cancer on Tuesday, June 25, 2013.
He was born on February 25, 1947 in Madison, the son of Robert C. and Evelyn P. (Alexander) Shafer. On March 26, 1965, Dave was united in marriage to his high school sweetheart, Barbara Bryan. For 37 years, Dave worked for Oscar Mayer Foods until his retirement in 2003. Following his retirement Dave worked for Copps grocery store in the meat department. Dave's family meant the world to him. He cherished visiting and spending time with them. He loved to travel and taking care of "his girls", Sophie and Sally. Dave was an avid Nascar and Packer fan.
Dave is survived by his son, Dion (Tammy) Shafer; two grandchildren, Trever and Tanner; his sister, Linda Shafer; his brother, Bob (Marjorie) Shafer and daughter-in-law, Apryl Purvis -Shafer. He is also survived by many loving family and friends.
Dave is preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Barbara Shafer and his son David Jr.
A celebration of Dave's life will be held at CRESS FUNERAL HOME, 3325 E. Washington Ave., Madison on Tuesday, July 2, 2013 at 3:00pm with Father Mike Tess officiating. A visitation will be held at the funeral home on Tuesday from 2:00pm until the time of services.
The family would like to extend a special thank you to the staff at Meriter Hospital, the staff at Heartland Hospice and especially his nurse May and Chaplain Kendra for all their wonderful care and attention given to Dave.
