David Strickland

McFarland- David P. Strickland, age 78, passed away on Friday, July 1, 2016 at the hospice unit of the VA Hospital in Madison. He was born in Stoughton on September 24, 1937, the son of Paul and Serine Strickland. David graduated from Madison East High School in 1956. He then attended UW-Whitewater. David enlisted in the U.S. Army in 1961 and proudly served his country as a Medical Records Clerk. Following his honorable discharge, David worked for the State of WI as a draftsman until his retirement in 1982. David enjoyed downhill skiing and scuba diving. He served as President of the Madison Diving Club in 1964. David enjoyed dancing at the Park Ponderosa Ball Room in McFarland, and going on day trips and camping with his family. He is survived by his brother, Jerry of McFarland; two nieces, Jill Halverson and Doris (Darrell) Dahlk; two nephews, Jason and Hugh Halverson; aunt, Arlene Shea; and cousin, Sonya (Peter) Baime. David was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Virginia Strickland; and uncle, Jim Shea. Graveside services, with full Military honors, will be held at 11:00 AM on Thursday, July 7, 2016 at Roselawn Memorial Park in Monona. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Wm. S. Middleton Memorial Veterans Hospital. A special thank you to the VA Hospital in Madison for their wonderful care. Please share your memories of David.
