David James Trudell, age 54, of McFarland, passed away peacefully in his home surrounded by light and love after a three-year fight against cancer on Sunday, October 15, 2017. He was born on October 18, 1962 in Aurora, CO, the son of Norman and Dorothy Trudell. His world changed when he became a dad to Isabel in June 2002 and Abby in December 2006, after marrying their mom and his best friend, Ida Balderrama-Trudell, in June of 2000 in Texas, where they met.
He was a 14-year employee of Dane County Regional Airport in Madison and also worked as a sports writer/editor for 4 years at the Wisconsin State Journal and Monahans News. A devoted fan of Red Sox, Patriots and Chelsea FC, each blessed with championships since 2000. He was a part time artist and musician as well as a voracious reader and punk rock music aficionado. He took a Humanist view on the world-believed in a supreme being, but admitted he didn't comprehend the form of that being.
He loved his children above all else and was proud that they have been raised to love deeply, laugh often and accept and appreciate all the difference the world has to offer. He truly enjoyed volunteering at St. James School and felt blessed to be a member of that community. He was proud to have served 8-plus years as an Air Force police officer, honorably discharged with the rank of Staff Sergeant and will receive full military honors. He graduated from the University of Texas at San Antonio in 1998 with a Bachelor of Arts degree in English.
His life will continue to be celebrated by his parents; Norman, SMSGT USAF (Ret.); and Dorothy (nee Larson); and a sister, Colette Weber and her husband, Chuck; nieces, Samantha and Jill Weber; spouse Ida Balderrama-Trudell; children, Isabel and Abigail; in-laws, Edmundo and Yolanda Balderrama; sister in-law, Jolene Santos and her husband, Marlo; nephew, Aiden Santos; Speedy, Chloe and all of his chosen family and friends.
