David "Jerry" Donnell age 81 passed away peacefully April 30, 2022 surrounded by family. Jerry was born July 10, 1940 in Milwaukee WI.
Jerry was a proud and active member of the Westminster Presbyterian Church where he developed many friendships, participated, and helped organize many of the church’s activities. Jerry’s true passion was working with the youth and young adults of Madison’s special needs community. Not only was Jerry very active in West Madison’s Special Olympics, he also took it upon himself to create additional activities for the special needs community and their families to enjoy. He started a bowling league over 15 years ago that is still going to this day. This league grew so large that it had to expand to two nights a week. He also planned and organized monthly dances and social events where special needs individuals could come together and socialize in a safe and fun environment. There were numerous Brewer bus trips, Badger sporting events, and countless other activities that kept the special needs community active, busy and relevant.
Jerry was born into a proud Irish family and was the 6th of 9 children. Jerry was preceded in death by his parents William and Flora Donnell; Brothers, Billy (Marilyn), Pat (Carol), Mike (Kathy), Danny; and sister, Margie (Ted) Rotar.
He is survived by his loving wife of 61 years Sharon; son Jim (Virginia); Daughters, Cheri (Chris) Liechty and Erin; Grandchildren, Charlie (Sara), Stephanie , Briana (Lucas), Samantha, Alexis, Kiara, Jenna and DJ; Great Grandchildren, Hudson and Easton , and his furry four legged love Coco. He is also survived by brothers, Terry (Diann) , Spike (Emmy); Sister, Maryanne Tikkuri; Sister-in-law, Chris O’Donnell, and numerous nieces and nephews.
There will be a memorial service in Jerry’s honor at a later date. The family would like to specially thank Agrace Hospice Care for their kind and compassionate care during Jerry’s stay with them. In lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate any donations to go to Agrace Hospice Care or the Saint Judes foundation.
