Delbert E. Carter

December 26, 1935 — October 23, 2008

Nekoosa, Wi -Del Carter, 72, died Thursday, October 23, 2008, at UW Madison Hospital, after a brief illness. Born December 26, 1935, in Rockford, son of Jay and Ruby (Hessinger) Carter. He attended Forreston High School and proudly served in the Marines during the Korean War. Del was an owner/operator of his own trucking business for more than 30 years until he retired this summer. He spent his timetinkering with his vintage car, wood working and flower gardening. Del enjoyed his annual fishing trip to Canada with the boys. His compassion and giving to those less fortunate is a shining example to others. His sense of humor and endless story telling will be missed. He is survived bychildren, Theresa (Andy) Watson, Phoenix, AZ; Lori Carter, Rockford, IL; Tambra (Ron) Branton, Nacogdoches, TX; Jay (Robin) Carter, Canton, GA; Audrey (Mitch) LeCleir, Rockford, IL; Diane McGuire; Noreen (David) Dixon, Machesney Park, IL; Ardara (Joshua) Yballa, Westminster, CO; brothers, Robert (Glenda) Carter, Machesney Park, IL;Harlan (Sandy) Carter, Pittsville, WI; sisters, Dorothy Brockman, Belvidere, IL; Delores (Paul) Glover, Belvidere, IL; Donna (Frank) Wahlberg, Charlotte, NC; 23 grandchildren, 9 great-grandchildren, 3 grand-dogs and his little trucking buddy, his dog ""Bugs"". Predeceased by his wife Marvyl, the love of his life and trucking partner, brother Bill Carter and brother-in-law, Virgil Brockman. A Celebration of Life is scheduled from 3:30 - 4:30 p.m. on Saturday, November 8, 2008, at the family home, 661 Ranger Road in Nekoosa, Wisconsin.  This will be followed by a dinner at Charlies Pinecrest at 5:00 p.m., 9231 Hwy 13 in Pittsville.  In lieu of flowers, a memorial has been established in his honor to keep his tradition of giving alive.  Donations may be made at Members Alliance Credit Union, deposits to acct# 34976, and please put Delbert Carter Fund on the memo line.

Directoins from Illinois to the Carter house:  Take 39/90 to EXIT 108B.  This is the split for 39 and 90.  Continue on 39 until EXIT 136.  This is the Plainfield/Wisconsin Rapids exit.  At the stop sign take a LEFT onto 73 North to Nekoosa. (about 18 miles)  Take a RIGHT at the stop sign at Hwy 13, go about a mile and take a LEFT onto Ranger Road.  You will go thru 1 stop sign (Cty Z).  The house is a half mile from there on the right.
