Dennis Maerz

October 2, 1947 — July 25, 2014

Stoughton - Dennis R. Maerz, age 66, passed away on Friday, July 25, 2014 at the U.W. Hospital. He was born on October 2, 1947 in Waunakee, WI, the son of Joseph and Mary (Werla) Maerz. He married Sue Woods on March 7, 1990 in Las Vegas, NV.

Dennis attended the Stoughton School District and it was also where he worked for many years until his retirement. He served his country in the United States Army until his discharge. Dennis loved the time spent playing with his dog's, working in his flower garden and the trips to Vegas. Dennis enjoyed watching sports but his favorite and most important sport was his NASCAR. He not only watched and attended races he also drove stock car, driving the PT73. Dennis was a great friend to many people, never shying away from lending a hand to someone in need. He will be greatly missed by his family and his many friends.

He is survived by his wife Sue and Sue's daughter Kim, and his children, son Shane (Jamie), daughter Monica (Geoff) Strenger and daughter Margo (Jonathan) Doty. Six brothers; Cliff (Patty), Ron (Joanne), Mike, Art (Connie), Joe (Lanny Sue), and Leon (Bobbie Miller); six sisters; Lois Robinson, Diane Badalich, Barb (David) Nennig, Sue Clark, Carol (Tom) Murray, Mary Jo (David) Seiter and his sister in-law Sandra Maerz. Dennis is also survived by eight grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.

Dennis is preceded in death by his parents and his brother Wayne Maerz.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, July 30, 2014 at Cress Funeral Home, 206 W. Prospect, Stoughton. Visitation will be held on Tuesday July 29, 2014 from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Cress Funeral Home and again on Wednesday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of services. Dennis is a member of the Stoughton American Legion Post 59 and they will be conducting his military honors following the service.

The family would like to give a special thank you to the U.W. Hospital and Clinics for the care they provided to Dennis and his family. They would like to give a special thank you to Alli Scott and his special friend Jim Tuite. Also they would like to thank his favorite Cub Fan Jean Johnson.
