Dennis A. Rynes

March 28, 1932 — June 19, 2024

Madison, WI

Dennis Albert Rynes, 92, of Madison passed away peacefully on Wednesday, June 19, 2024, at Ingleside Manor, Mount Horeb, WI. He was born on March 28, 1932 in Hillsboro, the son of Albert and Lucy (Haney) Rynes. He married Shirley Guitzkow on Nov. 14, 1953 in Dubuque IA.

Dennis enlisted in the Army at age 17 and was stationed in Japan when the Korean War broke out. While fighting on the front lines in Korea he suffered a serious leg injury but made a recovery and was reassigned to the Military Police in Japan. He received several medals for his service and was grateful to paticipate in a Badger Honor Flight late in life. Dennis worked for the City of Madison over 40 years, first as a laborer, moving on to equipment manager, Supervisor, and finally General Supervisor of the City Streets Division.

Dennis’ dad taught his sons to fish and hunt, first out of necessity, but ending in lifelong enjoyment. Family fishing outings for Dennis, Shirley, and his boys included Madison area lakes, northern Wisconsin lakes, and regular trips to Canada in the summer. Besides hunting and fishing, family activities included berry-picking and vegetable gardening.

Dennis is survived by sons Randall (Deborah), and Roderick (Carol Philipps); grandchildren Matthew (Nora), Aaron (Sam), Bradley (Alexandra), Brian (Sonia) McFall, and Brett (Karin) McFall; great-grandchildren Madeline, Molly, Mary, Gavin, Oksana, Ronin, Maddox, Lenora, Adam, Isaac, Michaela, Emma, and Nathan; and beloved nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife of 67 years, Shirley; and his three older brothers Mike, Norman, and Ken.

Visitation and funeral services will be held Monday, July 1 at Cress Funeral Home–West, 3610 Speedway Road, Madison. Visitation will begin at 9:30am, service at 11:00am, and graveside burial at noon at Sunset Memory Gardens, 7302 Mineral Point Rd, Madison.
