Madison

Diane Alice Hassett, of Madison, Wisconsin and La Quinta, California, was surrounded by loved ones when she passed away peacefully on March 24, 2025, at the age of 84. She is a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, aunt, and very dear friend. She has left profound impressions on the hearts and minds of everyone she’s touched.

Diane was born on January 26, 1941, in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, to Henry and Alice (Skinner) Stadelmann. She grew up in the warmth of a close-knit family valuing music, humor, kindness, imagination, and ongoing education -- core values Diane carried forward throughout her entire life.

After graduating from Washington High School in 1959, Diane began her college career at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee. Here, she met the love of her life, Rodney Hassett, in the fall of 1959. She graduated from the University of Wisconsin-Madison in 1963 with a degree in Journalism and a minor in Applied Math and Science.

Rod and Diane were married in Milwaukee on June 15, 1963. Together, they shared 62 years of marriage filled with love, laughter, family vacations, and unconditional support. Diane was a proud and devoted mother to three children: Dawnene (Chris Hegna), Daniel (Mary Bell Hassett), and Kevin Henry, as well as two beautiful grandchildren, Tyler and Natalie Rose (Wes Raney). Diane’s unconditional and boundless love of her family remains a source of strength and joy to us all.

Diane’s compassion for others is evident in everything she did, from her devotion to her family to the many ways she touched the lives of those around her. She had a heart that was open to all, and her genuine care for others made her an immediate friend, confidant, and mentor. She had an extraordinary ability to make everyone feel welcome and loved, whether through her thoughtful conversations, her childlike curiosity, or her beautiful smile and sparkling eyes. You could tell her anything.

We know that Diane leaves a profound impression on the hearts and minds of all who knew her. She is remembered not only for her love and devotion to her family, but also for the grace, compassion, and joy she brought to the world. Her legacy will live on through the lives she touched and the values she instilled in her family. Diane, we see you in the light of the heavens and you are gorgeous. Toodle-doo!
