Don Allen Oberlander

Sun Prairie/Janesville- Don A. Oberlander age 82, passed away on Sunday, January 17, 2010 at the HospiceCare Center, Fitchburg. He was born on October 17, 1927 in New Ulm, MN the son of Henry & Huldah (Grussendorf) Oberlander. Don was united in marriage to Jean Klinder on July 14, 1951. He was a graduate of Owatonna, MN Senior High School, achieved his undergraduate degree for Buena Vista College, Storm Lake, IA. and Masters from University of Stout, Menomonie. Don was a veteran of W.W. II serving with the U.S. Navy from 1945-1948 and later served with the U.S. Naval Reserve between the years of 1958-1962. He was a member of the V.F.W. Post #1621, Janesville. Don was a longtime Instructor at M.A.T.C. in Graphic Arts. In his spare time he loved fishing and doing woodworking. He was noted for his meticulous woodworking projects in which he gave many to family members or to various organizations. Don was a former longtime active member of Trinity Episcopal Church, Janesville and most recently a member of Good Shepherd Episcopal Church, Sun Prairie. He will be missed by his beloved family which includes his wife, Jean of Sun Prairie; his son, Todd (Lori) Oberlander, Port Ludlow, WA; his daughter, Aloy (Peter) Pien, Madison; his grandchildren, Ashley and Alex Pien; other relatives and friends. Don was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Lois Wegner. A Funeral Mass will be held on Friday, January 22, 2010 at 12:00 p.m. (noon) at Good Shepherd Episcopal Church, 3416 Swansee Ridge, Sun Prairie, (corner of Ct Tk C and State Hwy 19) with Father Michael Tess officiating. A visitation will be held on Friday at the church from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service at noon. A funeral luncheon will be held after service at the church. Burial with full military rites will be held on Friday at 2:30 p.m. at Roselawn Memorial Park, Monona. The family would like to thank the wonderful North Team Staff headed by team leader Maria Johnson at HospiceCare. In Lieu of flowers, memorials to HospiceCare or Trinity Episcopal Church, Janesville would be appreciated.
