Waunakee-Don Barbian, age 57, died suddenly in his sleep on Tuesday, September 2, 2009. Don was a 1970 graduate of Waunakee High School and also a 1980 graduate of Arizona State University where he received a degree in Culinary Science. He was an executive chef and worked in many restaurants on both the west and east coasts. His skill in the kitchen was well known to his family and friends who enjoyed the many delicious meals he prepared for them. He was also an avid water skier and surfer and loved the ocean. Don is survived by his cherished daughter, Stephanie of Sterling, VA. He is also survived by his mother, Mrs. Betty Barbian of Waunakee; sisters Marilyn Joy Barbian of Waunakee and Elizabeth (Betsy) Barbian-Wood of Cambridge; brothers John of Madison, Tom of Oregon, Alan of Rhinelander, Bob of McFarland, Dave of Middleton and Tim of Waunakee. Also surviving are many nieces, nephews and cousins. A Memorial Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Friday, September 11, 2009 at 1:00 p.m. at St. John the Baptist Church, 209 South Street, Waunakee. A time of gathering will be held at the church on Friday from noon until the time of the service. A reception will follow the service in the school cafeteria.
