WAUNAKEE-Donald M. Grubb, age 87, died at 9:00 p.m. on November 11, 2016 after a fast battle with cancer. He was born on January 6, 1929 in Madison, Wisconsin, the son of Maurice and Charlene (Metcalf) Grubb. Don graduated from Madison Central High School in 1946, from the University of Wisconsin in 1952, and with a Masters Degree in 1960. While at the University, he participated in track and played on the 150-lb. football team that was Big 10 champs. In 1952, he married Dorothy Nicoll, daughter of Cyril and Charity Nicoll of Edgerton, Wisconsin. They were blessed with three sons. Don started teaching and coaching in Evansville, Wisconsin followed by two years in Platteville, Wisconsin. He moved to Madison in 1955. He was at Madison East, Dudgeon, Van Hise, Schenk Elementary/Junior High, Sennett Middle School and LaFollette High School. In 1968, he became assistant principal at Central High School. Don enjoyed coaching football, volleyball, and track while at Schenk Junior High, which was followed by coaching girls volleyball and soccer, boys soccer and ninth grade basketball at LaFollette High School. He was very proud of having been an inspiration to his students and team members. Don volunteered as an RSVP driver and delivered Meals-On-Wheels for 20 years. He was also active in the Knights of Columbus. Besides his family, his love of sports, the Packers (of which he was a proud stock owner), the outdoors, and travelling were his main interests. Dad enjoyed time with his golf buddies and card-playing partners. His wife, Dorothy, died in an auto accident in 1995 and in 1998 he married a high school classmate, Leona (Wallin) Endres. He is survived by his wife, Leona; his two sons, David (Jodi) and Dan (Patty); his five grandchildren; Bryan, Brady, Tyler, Shauna, and Brittany; a step-daughter, Diane Endres Ballweg, a step-son Ron Endres (Sheila); five step grandchildren, Ben, Sam, Katie, Jordan, Alexandra and three step great-grandchildren, Michael, Brandon and Brooke. Don was preceded in death by his parents, Donald's first wife Dorothy, and a son Richard, a sister Anita (Hallman), and a niece Candace (Kilburn). Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, November 16, at 11:00 a.m. at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, 209 South Street, Waunakee, Wisconsin. Visitation will be held on Tuesday, November 15, from 5 to 7 p.m. at Winn-Cress Funeral Home, 5785 Hwy Q, Waunakee, Wisconsin. Friends may also call on Wednesday at the church from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service. The family wishes to thank the staff at St. Mary's Hospital and Agrace HospiceCare for the care provided to Don.
