Donald Heggestad

Stoughton – Donald L. Heggestad, age 92, passed away peacefully on Wednesday May 4, 2022, at Skaalen Home in Stoughton.  He was born May 27, 1929, to the late Arthur P. and Elma L (Anderson) Heggestad.  He attended Stoughton schools graduating in 1947.  Donald married Ruth Delores Saniter on August 13, 1955, in Watertown.  He was with State Farm Insurance as an agent for 33 years, retiring in November of 1993.  Don served in the United States Army and Army National Guard retiring at rank of Major.  He was former alderman on the Stoughton City Council, former member of Stoughton Jr. Fair Assn. where he served as Secretary, Treasurer and President.  Donald was served as Assessor for the Town of Dunkirk.  He belonged to Kegonsa 73 Lodge, American Legion, First Lutheran Church.

Donald is survived by his daughters Kristi Huberd and Katherine Heggestad; granddaughter Kylie Fountain; sister Jean Paluch; and is further survived by nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends.

He is preceded in death by his parents, his wife Ruth, brother Alden (Marion) Heggestad, and sister June Moen.

A memorial service will be held at 11:00 AM on Wednesday May 18, 2022, at FIRST LUTHERAN CHURCH, 310 E. Washington St. Stoughton with Rev.  Dick Halom presiding.  Burial will be at Wheeler Prairie Cemetery.  A luncheon will follow the burial at the Stoughton American Legion.   Visitation will be from 9:00 AM until the service on Wednesday at the church.
