Madison - Donald D. Hester, beloved husband, father, and grandfather, died Friday, July 8th, 2016 of complications from MSA (Multiple System Atrophy).
He was born in Cleveland, Ohio. He received his BA and PhD degrees in economics from Yale and then joined the Yale faculty in 1960. In 1968 he joined the faculty at the University of Wisconsin, where he remained until his retirement in 2000.
Don wrote several books and numerous articles on money and banking, and taught in Bombay (Mumbai), Rome, Florence, and Beijing. His special love was teaching and he received several awards; most recently he was honored with a chair in his name in the economics department.
He loved classical music and particularly enjoyed the theater, travel, and Italian art.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his younger brother John, and his elder son, Douglas. He is survived by his wife Karen, son Karl (Kimberly) and grandchildren Nicholas, Natalie, and Kai. Special thanks to the staff of the Health Center at Capitol Lakes for their kindness and care.
A Memorial Service will be held on Wednesday, July 13th at 2pm at Cress Funeral Home, 3610 Speedway Road, Madison. A reception at the funeral home will follow the service.
