Donald John Kenney, age 74, passed away unexpectedly on Tuesday January 4, 2011 at St. Mary's Hospital in Madison due to sudden health complications.  He passed peacefully, surrounded by his loving family. Â
Don was born in Lake Geneva, Wisconsin on August 26, 1936, son of Harold and Ann (Stopfer) Kenney.  He attended catholic grade school in Delavan, and was an active member of the local Boy Scout troop.  Don graduated Delavan High School in 1954, and enlisted in the US Marine Corps.  He served overseas tours in Japan and Korea, completing his service in California. Â
He returned to southern Wisconsin, and earned a Batchelor's degree in Business Administration from Madison Business College in 1961.  He worked as an accountant for several businesses and private firms in the Madison area.  Towards the end of his career, Don transitioned to state government, working for Department of Revenue, where he retired in 2004. Â
From his youth and time in scouting, he maintained a life-long love of the outdoors including camping & hiking, hunting and fishing.  He remained active in Boy Scouts as an adult leader w/ both his sons, accompanying them on camping trips & outings.  He greatly enjoyed camping and vacationing in Door County over many years with his family. Â
For recreation, Don's greatest passion was his love of golf.  He started working in high school as a caddy and assistant greens-keeper, and continued playing in tournaments while serving in the Marine Corps.  He played regularly in local leagues & tournaments for many years.  Even after he was no longer able to play competitively, Don maintained his love of the game as a fan, watching PGA tournaments both on television and in person.  For Don and his relationship with sports, his only other serious interest was cheering for his beloved Chicago Cubs. Â
Don is survived by his wife Gwen of 43 years; his two sons Brian of Virginia Beach, Virginia, and Doug of Edgerton, Wisconsin; and his two sisters Barbara and Betty of St. Francis, Wisconsin.  He was preceded in death by his parents, and his beloved dog and best friend Zeke. Â
