Donald Kind

Madison - Donald C. Kind, age 74, passed away at his home on Sunday, October 18, 2015, after a courageous battle with cancer. He was born on February 6, 1941, in Red Wing, Minnesota, son of Albert and Louise Kind. On Dec. 28 1968 he married Maureen Harrington in Milwaukee, WI.

Don grew up on a dairy farm and graduated from Ellsworth High School as Valedictorian in 1959. He received his BS from the University of Wisconsin - Madison in 1964. He was a nature lover and led many ecology trips throughout the United States. He also liked to hunt and fish. Over the years Don and Maureen enjoyed worldwide travel adventures together, including many hiking and biking trips. Don was a gifted teacher and taught science for 35 years, many of them at Memorial High School. He was fond of his nieces and nephews and spent many happy times with them and his entire family at family reunions on the farm and at the Lake Superior cabin. He was an avid curler and volunteer ice worker at the Madison Curling Club, where he made many close friends.

He is survived by his wife Maureen; sister, Janice (Marlin) Torseth; 4 brothers, Bob Kind, Peter (Sandi) Kind, Bill (Connie) Kind, and Joel (Pat) Kind; sister in-law Kathleen (Dave) Krueger; 14 nieces and nephews, Gail (Ken) Amundson, Wendy Masel, Linda (Kent) Orwoll, Susan (Gary) Goral, Peter (Traci) Torseth, Lee (Trisha) Kind, Stephanie Kind, Gretchen (Scott) Rausch, Brian (Amy) Kind, Tammy (fianc� Justin Babik) Van Boxtel, Amy (Ryan) Kosmoski, Debbie Urben, Dan (Kristin) Krueger, and Joe (Leslie) Krueger; and many loving grandnieces and grandnephews.

Don was preceded in death by his parents, sister in-law Lois Kind, and his grandniece Mallory Goral.

The family would like to thank Dr. Anne Traynor at the Carbone Center, the wonderful doctors, nurses, and care workers on the 5th floor ICU unit and the 6th floor oncology unit at U.W. Hospital, and the caring nurses from Agrace Hospice.

Memorials may be given to the Madison Curling Club or Svea Lutheran Church in Hager City, WI.

Funeral services will be held at GOOD SHEPHERD PARISH at ST JAMES Catholic Church, 1128 St. James Ct, Madison on Friday, October 23, 2015 at 11:30 a.m. A visitation will be held at CRESS FUNERAL HOME, 3610 Speedway Road, Madison, on Thursday, October 22, 2015 from 4:00 - 7:00 p.m. and at church on Friday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of services.
