Donald Marcy

Donald "Don" Marcy, age 86, passed away on February 7, 2014 after a short illness. Don was born in Fond du Lac, Wisconsin on June 30, 1927 to Howard G. and Edith (Zastrow) Marcy. Several years later he and his father moved to Almond, Wisconsin to live with Don's Grandmother Alice Marcy. Don attended Almond Public Schools and upon graduating with honors in 1944, he enrolled in the University of Wisconsin- Madison, and played in the UW band.
He was drafted into the Army in March of 1946. Upon receiving an honorable discharge in April of 1947, he moved to Wautoma. In 1948 he started working for the local telephone company (A predecessor of Verizon). In 1951 he was joined in marriage to Rosemarie Baehr of Berlin. One year later they were transferred to Colfax, then later to Sun Prairie where he retired in 1987 after 39 years of service. In 2010 he was joined in marriage to Sandra McKenna.
He is survived by his wife Sandra; son Jeff ( Jeanne Hageman) Marcy of Fargo, ND; stepchildren Sean ( Jenny) McKenna of Madison and Maura ( Jason) Ekstrom of Sun Prairie; grandchildren Kevin and Sarah Marcy; Cayden and Ryan McKenna; and Broc Kelly; step-sister Joanne ( Hanneman) Pace.
He was preceded in death by his wife Rose and son Jerry.
A memorial mass for Don will be held at 11:00am, Wednesday, February 12, 2014 at St. Albert the Great Catholic Church, 2420 St. Albert Drive, Sun Prairie with Monsignor Terrence Connors presiding. Visitation will be held from 10:00am until time of the service at the church. Burial will be held at Sun Prairie Memory Gardens. The family requests that in lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Agrace HospiceCare. The family would like to thank the staff at Agrace for their caring and support.
