Pompano Beach, Fla. & Madison - Donald S. Rush of Pompano Beach, FL and Madison, WI passed away at Wm. S. Middleton Memorial Veterans Hospital on Wed. Oct 17, 2012.
Donald was born May 22, 1928 in Holyoke, Mass, to James A. and Helen G. Rush. He grew up in Stevens Point, WI. At 17 Donald quit school and enlisted in the Navy. From Great Lakes, Ill. He went to Portsmouth, Virg. While stationed in Virg. he served as a hospital corpsman and also in the Fire Department. After discharge he returned to Stevens Point, where at the urging of his
father he enrolled in Central State Teachers College. He found he now liked school so well he transferred to UW Madison and continued on to get his Law degree in 1954.
Donald opened his private practice in the Gay Building on the Capitol Square, later moving to 30 West Mifflin. Donald was a successful lobbyist in the Wisconsin Political arena. He represented a varied array of clients. Among them were the Wisconsin Conference of Catholic Bishops, Plumbing, Heating and Cooling Contractors, Wisconsin Hospital Association, Wisconsin Credit Bureaus, Wisconsin Nursing Homes and numerous small local telephone companies. One of his proudest accomplishments was a bill allowing private school children to ride the public school bus.
Donald retired in 1996 and enjoyed spending winters in Fla. with his wife Patricia. They enjoyed many Caribbean cruises and trips to New York sightseeing and Broadway plays. Donald enjoyed swimming at Lussier West YMCA and Hill Farms Pool and competing in Badger State Games Senior swimming events. He also enjoyed, competing in Wisc. Senior Olympic and South Fla. Senior Olympic swimming events. He proudly displayed his medals to friends and family.
Donald is survived by his wife of 39 years, Patricia; two sons, James of Madison and Steven (Kelly) of Monona and a daughter Diannah (Joseph) Jacobson of Madison; three grandchildren, Olivia Rush and Zoey and Beckett Jacobson. He is further survived by a sister, Jan in Key West, Fla. one niece and nephew.
Visitation will be held on Sunday October 21, 2012 at CRESS FUNERAL AND CREMATION SERVICE 3610
Speedway Rd, 3:00 - 5:00 p. m.
There will be a Mass of Christian Burial on Mon. Oct. 22, 2012 at 11 a. m. at OUR LADY QUEEN OF PEACE CATHOLIC CHURCH, 401 S. Owen Dr. Madison with Fr. John Nellissery presiding.
