Donald Lee Steckbauer

Stoughton – Donald Lee Steckbauer, age 89, passed away peacefully on Wednesday February 21, 2024 at Stoughton Hospital.  He was born April 28, 1934, in Aniwa, WI. to the late Frank and Dorothy (Meyers) Steckbauer.  Donald married Nancy Mae Evans on June 16, 1956, in Salem, WI.  He earned his bachelor's degree from the University of Wisconsin Whitewater, and later his master’s degree from Colorado State University.   Beginning his career in education in Matoon, WI he then worked for Stoughton High School as a Guidance Counselor, retiring in 1991 after 28 years.  

Donald was passionate about education and learning.   He supported this passion by funding post high school education for his 10 grandchildren.   

Donald enjoyed spending time with his family. Other favorite pastimes included traveling, hunting, fishing, photography, scuba diving and watching Wisconsin sports teams.

Donald is survived by his 4 children: Steven (Allison) Steckbauer, Kathy (Dave) Turensky, Tracy (Wally) Wurtzler, and David (Kerry) Steckbauer; 10 grandchildren Josh Turensky, Ashley Turensky, Kyle Steckbauer, Megan (Ethan) Bancroft, Stephanie (Jordan) Hillis, Erin (Marv) Meronk, Sheri (Allan) Kulas, Travis (Chelsea) Steckbauer, Kellie (Blake) Johnson and Bryce Steckbauer. He is further survived by 13 great grandchildren.

He is preceded in death by his wife Nancy and his parents.

A funeral service will be held at 12:00 noon on Thursday February 29, 2024, at CRESS FUNERAL HOME, 206 W. Prospect St. Stoughton.   The burial will be at Lutheran Cemetery South.  Visitation will be from 10:00 AM until the service at the funeral home on Thursday.
