Uncle Don peacefully went "home to the music" on January 15, 2019 at the age of 65 with his two nieces by his side. Donald Roy Storley was born on March 20, 1953 and lived on the North side of Madison most of his life, graduating from East High School in 1971. He worked for the Madison Metropolitan School district as a Custodian until his retirement in 2008. He will be remembered for his laugh, gentle soul, kind heart, burning the incense, his long hair, love for the Packers, liberal views, classic rock, and his loving hippie ways.
His feline named, "Cat", was his buddy and companion along with his "no fishing zone" fish tank; however, Uncle Don was never short on visitors of the two-legged variety. He welcomed friends and family any time and truly relished their company. Once a month, he played cards with his poker buddies, which he thoroughly enjoyed. He also loved and adored his great-niece, Berlyn, whom he called, "the German baby" along with his great-nephew, Storm, who always offered a helping hand. He happily got his best friend and brother, Paul, "back". Uncle Don knew what was important in life and the friendships that we build. He let us exist for who we are and let us be... just as we were. He is irreplaceable. According to his brother, David, Don was the "best" of the brothers. He is one of a kind!
Uncle Don is survived by his siblings: twin sister Donna Storley, Paul Storley, David (Luanne) Storley, Geraldine Sprague, and Charline Fleck. His good friend, Jimmie Stanford, who held a special place in Uncle Don's heart. Special nieces and nephews Valarie (Steve) Northrop, Jon (Megan) Storley, and Dawn (Nobody) Storley. Affectionately his daughter, Jill (Chris) Anderson and grandchildren: Braden, Jaycie, and Sawyer. Along with all of his other nieces and nephews: Randy, Mark, Lori, Lisa, Linda, Jay, David, Danny, Connie, Chad, and his "extra niece" Chandra. As well as many other extended family members and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Arthur and Marion Storley, brother-in-law Willard "Bud" Sprague, and twin sister's boyfriend of 30 years, Mason North.
We (including Uncle Don) want to thank all of the caring staff at St. Mary's Hospital that looked after him - including his special friends in Pulmonary Rehab where he proudly volunteered for several years. We are thankful to the many people that helped Uncle Don during his illness, namely: Storm, his great nephew, and Jay, who frequently came to shovel the "white stuff."
In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation in Uncle Don's honor to any of the following: the American Lung Association (National Office), Save the Elephants, or St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.
A remembrance "party" will be at the Williow's Tavern on Saturday, February 23, 2019 from 2:00-10:00 PM.
Uncle Don, you will forever be missed by so many friends and family. We never let you be alone, nor will we ever forget you ♡
