Donald Ward

November 14, 1935 — October 4, 2016

Donald Joseph Ward, Sr., age 80, of Colorado Springs passed away on Tuesday, October 4, 2016 in Colorado Springs. He was born on November 14, 1935 in Detroit, Michigan, the son of Roy A. Ward and Julia Nadeau Ward.

Don had degrees from University of Wisconsin and Michigan State University. He also had a master's degree from Southern Illinois University. Don proudly served as an officer in the United States Air Force for 20 years retiring as a Major. Being a proud veteran was one of his strongest affiliations but he was also a proud member of the Madison Scouts Drum and Bugle Corps, where he played the snare drum, in his younger years. Other activities included coaching little league baseball, bowling, creating jewelry, and in his later years he became a mean bocce player winning many tournaments at Festa Italia in Madison with Kevin and Raul. And he never said no to stopping by Starbucks.

He is survived by his children Cynthia Dillon, Don Ward Jr and Jennifer Lennon (Greg) along with their mother Ruth Ann Niebauer Ward. His grandchildren are John and Julie Dillon and Evan, Ryan and Kate Lennon. He is also survived by his sister, Virginia O'Brien (Gregg) and his 3 nieces Kelly, Katy and Julie and their families. He was preceded in death by his parents, his daughter, Julie Mary Ward and a son in law, Russell Dillon.
