Wustrack, Donald E.
LAS CRUCES, N.M./ VERONA - Donald E. Wustrack, age 85, passed away on Dec. 4, 2011, at Skaalen Home in Stoughton, after a long battle with Alzheimer's disease.
He was born on July 15, 1926, in Waupun, to Herbert and Ida (Leu) Wustrack. He graduated from Brandon High School in 1944. On Aug. 29, 1951, Donald married Erna Straubhaar in Rogersville, Wis. He served in the United States Army in Germany, achieving the rank of Corporal. In 1957, Donald and Erna moved to the Verona area. They were faithful members of St. James Lutheran Church in Verona. He was a lifelong auto mechanic having worked 18 years at Doering Lincoln Mercury in Madison. He also completed more than 20 years of service to the University of Wisconsin, where he retired as the supervisor of the university's vehicle management facility.
In 1989, Don and Erna were able to live out one of their life long dreams when they moved to Las Cruces, New Mexico, after they both retired. He loved the climate there and often took early morning walks in the desert. He spent a lot of time on his favorite hobbies: collecting and restoring antique cars and tractors and building a firearms collection. Donald served as president of the Hudson Club in El Paso, Texas, and belonged to several other antique auto and tractor clubs. You could find him at antique vehicle meets, where he showed his vehicles and served on the judging team. He would also watch any NASCAR race he could. He and Erna also enjoyed traveling and camping.
He is survived by his four children, Sue (Alex) McKeown of Westerville, Ohio; Cherie (Keith] Tveit of Ashland, and their children, Cory and Kevin; Mark (Kim) Wustrack of Stoughton, and their children, Tuesday and Ruby; and Linda (Steve) Oetzel of Brodhead, and their children, Valerie, Shannon, Tony, Ryan, Melissa and Jessica; and four great-grandchildren, Madison, Josie, Nicole and Brett.
Donald was preceded in death by Erna, his beloved wife of more than 51 years; his parents; three sisters, Margery Wustrack, Leila Schlenski and Doris Ely; and three brothers, Kenneth, Harley, and Allan Wustrack.
A memorial service will be held at MCFARLAND LUTHERAN CHURCH, 5529 Marsh Road, McFarland, on Saturday, Dec. 17, 2011, at 11 a.m. with Pastor Dean officiating Visitation will be one hour prior to the service.
