Madison - Donald F. Young passed away at home on January 4, 2013 after a long illness. He was born to Beulah N. Young and Frank E. Young on April 10, 1926 at St. Mary's Hospital in Madison and was a lifetime resident of Madison.
Don was married to Beverly E. (Dean) Young for 54 years until her passing on November 19, 2000. He is survived by a daughter, Susan P. Olstadt of Sun Prairie and a son, Donald F. Young, Jr. of Redmond, Washington; seven grandchildren, and six great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, daughter Nanette, a stillborn son John, and a sister Viola N. Boyd.
Don attended the old Washington School, Central Jr. and Sr. High School, the University of Wisconsin and the University of Oklahoma at Norman. He was a forty year employee of Wisconsin Power and Light Company, retiring October 1, 1987.
He served in the Army Air Corps and Army Air Corp Reserve from 1943 -1949 and flew from numerous bases in the U.S. He was stationed with the Twelfth Tactical Air Command at Bad Kissingen, Germany in 1945 and 1946.
Don was a long time member of Commonwealth Lodge #325 Masonic Lodge; ZOR Shrine where he played in The Noblemen Dance Band and Concert Band for twenty eight years. He was a longtime member of the ZOR Arab Patrol and a life member of The Royal Order of Jesters. He was a member for many years of 32nd Degree Scottish Rite, Valley of Madison.
He was a life member of Madison Elks Lodge #410, a past member of Capitol City Toastmasters and Area Governor of Area S-2 in Wisconsin.
Don was a Certified Economic Developer (C.E.D.) and served as a Regent on the Board of Regents for the American Economic Development Institute at the University of Oklahoma.
Private family services are being held at a later date. The family requests that memorials be made to: Shriner's Hospitals or Burn Centers, The Scottish Rite Fund For The Causes and Cure of Schizophrenia, The American Heart Association, or The American Cancer Society.
