WAUNAKEE/WESTPORT-Donald Ziegler, age 77, passed away peacefully surrounded by his loving family on Sunday, Dec. 27, 2015, at UW Hospital after a lengthy battle with health issues. Donnie was born to Frank and Mary (Meinholz) Ziegler and was son-in-law to Edmund and Julia (Dermody) Kuehn. He married Marlene Kuehn on Oct. 19, 1961. They were blessed being together 54 years and raised six wonderful children.
Donnie's life journey began Feb. 13, 1938, on the Ziegler Family Homestead in the town of Westport. Donnie attended the Blackwood "one room" school house adjacent to the family farm property. After farming, he was employed at Grabers (Springs Window Fashions) for 33 years where he made many lifelong friends until his retirement in 2000.
Donnie had an outgoing personality and always had a smile on his face. He loved playing cards with family & friends; he had a "green thumb" in his vegetable & flower gardens and enjoyed being outdoors. He loved taking Sunday drives in his classic black Cadillac. He knew God's love and was a lifelong member of St Mary of the Lake Church in Westport.
Survivors include his devoted wife, Marlene; children, Leon (Mary) Ziegler, Vernon Ziegler (Sadie Cook), Cindy Ziegler (Chad Stites), and Lisa (Jeff Fountain); his much beloved grandchildren, Jacob Ziegler and Skylar Ziegler; siblings, Francis (Loretta) Ziegler, Irene (Cyril Ripp), and Lucille Taylor; and many loved family and friends. Donnie was preceded in death by two sons, Craig and Lyle in 1992; siblings, Carolyn and husband, John "Jack" Barbian, Seraphine "Roundy" and husband, Leo Herbrand; brothers-in-law, Harvey "Johnny" Taylor, Alfred "Fritz" Roelke, and Vernon Kuehn.
We will miss his smiling face sitting at the kitchen table and asking "Who wants to play cards!"
Funeral services will be held on Thursday, Dec. 31, 2015, at 11:00 a.m. at ST MARY OF THE LAKE CATHOLIC CHURCH, 5460 Mary Lake Road, Westport. Msgr James Gunn will officiate. Visitation will be at church from 9:30 a.m. until the time of services at 11:00 a.m. Burial will take place in the church cemetery.
