Doris V. Kluever

November 20, 1915 — June 5, 2009

Doris V. Kluever, age 93 of Stoughton, passed away at home on Friday, June 5, 2009, surrounded by her loving family.   She was born on November 20, 1915 in Madison, a daughter of Oscar and Verena (Dickens) Serstad.   She married her high school sweetheart, Ray Kluever, on December 2, 1933, in Freeport, Illinois.   They graduated together from Madison East High School earlier that year.   Ray preceded her in death in 2005.   From 1945 through 1947, she and Ray operated the Prairie Lunch and Alleys in Sun Prairie.   In 1947, they bought the Dairy Bar in Stoughton, moving there in 1949.   They were known to many students as ""Mom and Pop"" Kluever.   Doris was a member of Covenant Lutheran Church and a 24 year member of the Women of the Moose, Madison Chapter No. 291.   She was very proud to have received a Mayoral Proclamation from Stoughton's then Mayor, Helen Johnson, declaring June 2, 2002, as Ray and Doris Kluever Day, in celebration of Ray's 90th birthday and their 68th wedding anniversary.   She thoroughly enjoyed keeping in touch with relatives and friends by sending cards and notes to mark special occasions.   Doris is survived by her children, Phyllis Wendt of Sun Prairie, Richard, Kenneth, and Rex (Rita), all of Stoughton; brother, William (Lenore) Serstad of Forth Wayne, Indiana; and sister, Mary Ann ( Wayne) Martin of Madison.   She is also survived by many grandchildren, great grandchildren, and great-great grandchildren; as well as many nieces and nephews.   She was preceded in death, not only by her husband, but also by her parents; son, Robert; an infant son; a sister, Orma Uphoff; two brothers, Merle and Robert; daughter-in-law, Thyra Kluever; son-in-law, Howard Wend; and mother and father-in-law, Lena and Fred Kluever and their children and spouses.   Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, June 9, 2009 at 11:00 am at Covenant Lutheran Church, 1525 N. Van Buren St. with the Rev. Mark Petersen presiding.   A catered lunch will be served following the service.   Burial will follow at Roselawn Memorial Park, Monona.   Family will greet family and friends on Monday, June 8, 2009 from 4:00 to 7:00pm at the Olson-Holzhuter-Cress Funeral Home in Stoughton, and again at church on Tuesday from 10:00 am until the time of service.   Special thanks to Rev. Mark Petersen, Covenant Lutheran Church, Meriter Home Health, and Hospice Care of Rock County for their care and support.
