McFarland - Doris Leoda “Lee” McLaughlin, she left this earth just as Sunday May 5th came to a close, and finally joined her dearly missed husband, Dick, after 14 years.
Doris Leoda McLaughlin, born November 3, 1923, in Gettysburg, PA was a lot of things to a lot of people. She was a daughter to William and Sarah Urilla Schields. She was one of nine children and proceeded in death by all except for Nancy (Frank) Davilla. She was an unconditionally loving wife to a handsome man with a thrill for adventure, Frank Richard “Dick”. She was a mother to three: Karen Bess, Frank “Rick” (Stephanie) McLaughlin and Daniel (Judy) McLaughlin, a grandmother to four: Krista (Jon) Loye, Erin Fawley, Alissa McLaughlin Bletsch and Megan (Nathan) Frank and a great-grandmother to 8: Josephine, Cora, Reese, Ellisyn, Eleanor, Redding, Easton and Fallon.
A friend to countless.
It’s difficult to even try to imagine 100 years of life.
100 years of adventures, love, travel, heartache, change, loss, gains, struggles, successes, failures, new beginnings, celebrations, endurance, challenges, faith, advancements, perseverance.
If she wasn’t offering you coffee or iced tea with some sort of delicious treat or snack, she was playing the piano or dancing in the living room.
Well into her “elder years” she was still mowing her lawn (with a push mower) and playing a little badminton in the backyard. Her home was warm and cozy and filled with treasures. She loved to tell stories and memories about all the beloved family heirlooms that filled that McFarland home with so much life and magic. There was always music. There was always a dish of ice cream before bed. There was always time for a late-night chat at the dining room table. There was always a warm towel after a (very bubbly) bubble bath. There were dinner parties, bonfires on the back porch in the summer, fires in the fireplace in the winter. She had a servant’s heart and gave so much of herself to everyone that she loved. Lee continues to serve others by donating her body to science, to be studied at UW-Madison, just as her husband did.
100 years of Doris Leoda McLaughlin somehow still doesn’t seem like quite enough.
Life is a journey.
The family of Lee would like to thank the staff at Azura in Stoughton, WI and Agrace Hospice for their compassion and care the last couple years. A celebration of life will be held at a later date.
