Doris Mendel

April 26, 1930 — December 16, 2014

MADISON - We have lost a beloved mother, sister, grandmother, teacher, role model, and friend.

Doris M. Mendel (Redford), age 84, died peacefully in her home on Tuesday December 16th.
Doris dedicated her life and her love to family, friends, and her faith. A native of Marseilles, Illinois, Doris graduated from Marseilles High School in 1948. She then worked for Dr. Jed Johnson in Marseilles, where she met her husband of over 60 years, Pharmacist Philip A. Mendel. The Mendels moved to Madison in 1962, where Doris and Phil raised a beautiful family of four children and much-loved dog, Toby. In addition to their family of six, Phil and Doris also had a much larger family of cherished friends. She greatly valued her fellowship with The First Baptist Church, where she was a devoted and active member under the guidance of her dear friend Reverend Mark Clinger. Doris was a strong woman with a heart full of grace, and though we are mourning our loss, many others are rejoicing to meet her once again.
Doris was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, her two sisters, her six brothers, one granddaughter, and her son-in-law, Jeffery. She is survived by her sister Mary Lou, sisters-in-law Joyce and Mickey, brothers-in-law Melvin and Richard, daughters Pamela, Barbara (David), Jill (Patrick), son Philip (Stephanie), six grandchildren Lindsay (Matt), Corrin (Tanner), Lucas, Jacob, Gage and Vivian, one great-grandson Wesley, the Agrace West care team, and her caregiver and dear friend, Karin Lanser.

At Doris's request there will be no visitation or funeral service. Her remains will be entombed in the family crypt at the foot of the cross in Sunset Memory Gardens in a private family service. If desired, memorials may be made to First Baptist Church or the Dane County Humane Society in lieu of flowers.
