Dorothy M. Ballweg, age 96, of Waunakee died on Saturday, Nov. 21, 2009 at the Waunakee Manor Health Care Center. The former Dorothy Acker was born on Feb. 27, 1913 to Anton and Catherine Acker. She married Leo Ballweg at St. Peter's Catholic Church in Ashton on Nov. 23, 1939. Together they operated a dairy, hog and tobacco farm between Waunakee and DeForest. She cared for chickens and ran an egg route in Madison for over 50 years. She was a card player and enjoyed making and donating mittens for children in the community. She was a great cook, especially desserts and made many apple pies and donuts for friends and family. Dorothy was a member of St. John's Catholic Church, the Catholic Order of Foresters, and Catholic Knights St. Jude's card group. Survivors include three children, Mary Ellen (Jim) Ripp-Middleton, Anthony (Karen) Ballweg-Windsor and Thomas (Joan) Ballweg-Markesan; grandchildren Mike-California, Tom (Mary)-Indiana, Steven Ripp-Tennessee, Karen (Ric) Miller-Waunakee, Jeff-New Zealand, Kris-Washington DC, Becky-Markesan, Allen-Windsor and Jeanette-Cottage Grove, Ballweg; great-grandchildren, Matt, Andrew and Ryan Ripp- Indiana, Alex, Nathan and Danny Miller-Waunakee; three sisters, Priscilla Karls, Carrie Meier and Martha Schwarz; sisters-in law, Mary Ellen Acker, Mary Bassett, Theresa Hoffman, Agnes Ballweg; and a brother-in-law Joe Ballweg. She was preceded in death by her husband Leo on Sept. 2, 2005; infant grandchild Jaclyn Ballweg; three brothers John V Acker, Albert Acker, and Syl Acker; and in-laws, Ed Schwarz, Leonard Meier, Arnold Karls, Allen Bassett, Barbara and George Skrum, Helen and Perry Haugen, Marion Ballweg, Olive and George Shepard, Al Hoffman, Adolf Ballweg, Lawrence Ballweg, Sally Bowers, and Caroline Ballweg. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, Nov. 28, 2009 at 11:00 a.m. at St. John's Catholic Church, 209 South St., Waunakee. Friends may call on Friday, Nov. 27, 2009 from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. at the Winn-Cress Funeral Home in Waunakee. Friends may also call at the church on Saturday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of services. Burial will take place in the church cemetery. The family would like to thank the Waunakee Manor staff for their kindness to Dorothy during her stay.
