Stoughton- Dorothy E. Holtan, age 91, passed away on Thursday October 27, 2011 at Skaalen Home in Stoughton. She was born in Sun Prairie on April 22, 1920, a daughter of George and Laura (Hessing) Kendell. On August 17, 1940, she was united in marriage to Orlin W. Holtan in Sun Prairie.
She was a lifelong member of the Methodist Church, a member of the Sun Prairie Homemakers Club, and a 65 year member of the Magelson Mothers Club. She was a lover of nature and a positive person. Her family was the most important thing to her.
She is survived by 5 children, Virginia (Tom) Lunde, Jean (Dennis) Jenks, David (Trudy) Holtan, Alan (Hope) Holtan, and Steven (Jo) Holtan, a special daughter-in-law, Joanne; 13 grandchildren; 11 great grandchildren; and 2 sisters, Jeanette Lorenz and Mildred Oakey.
She was preceded in death by her husband Orlin; a son, Raymond; a sister, Alice; and 2 brothers, Gerald and Richard Kendell.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 pm on Monday, October 31, 2011 at Skaalen Chapel, 400 N. Morris St., Stoughton, with the Rev. David Sharpe officiating. A private burial will take place at Wheeler Prairie Cemetery. The family will greet friends at Skaalen Chapel on Monday from 1:00 pm until the time of service at 2:00pm. A reception at Skaalen will follow services.
Special thanks to the caring staff at Skaalen Home. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Stoughton United Methodist Church, or to Skaalen Home.
