DOROTHY VISSCHER LITTLE at the age of 96, died of natural causes on Friday January 25th, 2019 at Capital Lakes Health Facility in Madison, Wisconsin. Dorothy was born on October 23, 1922 in Detroit, Michigan, the daughter of Wallace and Marguerite Visscher. She attended college at University of Michigan-Ann Arbor and the University of Minnesota in Minneapolis, Minnesota, with a degree in art. She was an artist from a very young age and over the years explored a wide variety of expressions including portrait drawing, paintings of people and landscapes, sculptures of human figures, Raku pots and masks, as well as photography, developing herself both black and white and color photographs. She was invited to numerous shows of her artwork. She and her spouse shared a presidential role for the Minnetonka Arts Center in its earlier years, outside of Minneapolis. She received numerous awards for her artwork over the years. Her passions, additional to art, centered around treasured long-term friendships, her Books and Bites book club, swimming (which she did daily in early mornings for decades at YMCA pools), and focus on her family. She was married to her true love, Sidney C. Little, for almost 70 years until his death in 2011. She was also preceded in death by her eldest son, Richard C. Little (Minneapolis, MN). She is survived by two loving children, Mark W. Little (Berkeley, CA) and Meg L. Little (Madison, WI), as well as six grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. The family will hold a private memorial service in summer of 2019. She will long be honored for her gentle, generous and creative spirit.
