Dorothy Carol Loehrer

Dorothy Carol Loehrer, age 94, of Madison, WI saw her final sunrise on Wednesday, June 28, 2023 in her Madison home.  She was born on March 16, 1929 in Green Bay, WI, the daughter of Fred and Minnie Holz.  Dottie married John (Jack) Loehrer on July 2, 1955, and he passed in 1987.  She was also preceded in death by her parents, sisters Marcella Gartner and Gladys Winchell, son Ken Loehrer and daughter Carol Grover.

Dottie grew up in Green Bay, attended Green Bay West High School, and graduated as valedictorian in 1947.

Dottie was active during her high school years:

  • Played in band from 7th -12th grade
  • Member of Masque & Gavel Society (arts)
  • Member of Quill & Scroll Society (writing)
  • Editor of the Purple Parrot school newspaper
  • Was awarded the DAR Citizenship award
  • Was a squad leader in Physical Education

 

Dottie graduated from the University of Wisconsin-Madison School of Nursing and received her Bachelor of Science degree.  After graduation, Dottie had a long and varied nursing career in patient care and as an instructor.  She worked at University of Wisconsin Hospitals, was Inservice Coordinator at several area nursing homes, a Clinical Instructor at Methodist School of Nursing, and later worked in drug research at Hazelton Labs/Covance.

Active in the Madison community, Dottie was one of the original organizers of Meadowood Club, later named the Meadowood Neighborhood Association. She served as secretary, board member, organized an annual Santa Visit, and other activities.

Dottie was a 1957 Charter Member of Good Shepherd Lutheran Church and remained active in many church roles:  Sunday School teacher, Bethel Series teacher, Church Council (6 years/two terms), Chairperson of 25th Anniversary Committee, Communion to Shut-ins, Lector, Information Desk. Communion Assistant.

Active in local schools, Dottie was a long-term tutor at Madison’s Muir School and Stoner Prairie school in Verona.

As a widow for 35+ years, Dottie’s passion became ballroom dancing where she met many new friends.  She enjoyed playing cards, aqua-exercise classes, read the newspaper every day, and was a life-long Packer fan.

Dottie is survived by daughters Gail Hall (Brian) and Linda Loehrer; special friend Charles Murray.  Also surviving are seven grandchildren: Lucas (Liz), Jacob (Felicia), Anthony (Jenny), Brianna (Matt), Cassandra Hall-Hansen (Derrick), Brandon (Taylor), Abigail Timmerman (Mike); and great-grandchildren: Brooklyn, Bristol, Jason, Mackinze, Arya, Holley, Arianna, Hudson, and baby boy due July 11th.

Funeral visitation will be held at Cress Funeral Home 3610 Speedway Road in Madison on Thursday, July 6 from 5:30-8:00PM

Additional visitation and funeral will be held on Friday July 7 at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church 5701 Raymond Road in Madison.  Visitation is at 10:00AM, Service at 11:00AM followed by a luncheon.
