Dorothy A. Mansfield died on April 7, 2023. She passed away peacefully at Homestead Care Center in Waunakee after a long struggle with dementia.
Dorothy spent the majority of her work years as an outstanding teacher in the California School system. It was there she met the man she loved - -a fellow teacher, Bill Mansfield. They married and enjoyed many years together. Before Bill died, he recognized that Dorothy was showing the beginning signs of dementia. He had a heart-to-heart talk with his brother, Jack, and simply said: “will you take care of her for me?” Within the year, Bill died, and Jack and his wife, Betty, traveled to California to do what Bill had asked him to do. Dorothy (and her cat) came to Wisconsin with Jack and Betty. She was loved and cared for at Homestead in Waunakee and Jack was her daily visitor.
Dorothy was preceded in death by her parents, Reverend and Mrs. Edgeworth and her sister, Barbara Edgeworth. Dorothy is survived by her three stepsons, Kevin, Kyle, and Kirk, and seven grandchildren, Kayla, Kelsey, Kiley, Michael, Thomas, Eva, and Kaitlyn; and four great-grandchildren, Aubrey, Liam, Linkin, and Lily. She is further survived by her sister-in-law, Ruth and Paul Swanson and family, and by her brother-in-law, Jack and Betty Mansfield and family. She has a wealth of friends at Sunnyvale Presbyterian, and to all her friends we say: Dorothy left her weary body, and we know her spirit soared to re-unite with her loved ones in heaven.
A Christian service to celebrate Dorothy’s life will be planned at Sunnyvale Presbyterian Church in Sunnyvale, California, at a later date.
Please share your memories of Dorothy here on her tribute wall.
