Dorothy J. Nelson

Dorothy J. Nelson, age 99, passed away on Monday, July 8, 2024. She was born on February 12, 1925 in Bemidji, Minnesota, the daughter of John and Louise (Thorson) Gladen. Dorothy is the last of 9 sisters and 4 brothers to pass away.

Dorothy married Jack Nelson on May 3, 1947. Jack and Dorothy enjoyed family, camping, travelling, dancing, and bowling. They were charter members of Our Savior’s Lutheran Church in Sun Prairie, WI.

Her survivors include a daughter Pamela (John) Fugina of Sun Prairie; four grandchildren: Charlie Tucker of Madison, Jenny Larson of Eau Claire, Nicole (Criag) Ayres of New Mexico, and Tim (Jess) Schroud of Madison; 8 great-grandchildren; 3 great-great-grandchildren; and many other relatives. 

Dorothy moved to Madison, WI after graduating from Northern Business College in Bemidji, MN. She worked at Oscar Mayer in Madison as a data processor for over 32 years.

Dorothy was an active Sunday school teacher and girl scout leader for many years.

Dorothy was preceded in death by her husband Jack, son Jack Jr, and daughter-in-law Patricia.

Visitation will be from 10:30-11:30 am on Friday, July 19, 2024 at Cress Funeral Service, 1310 Emerald Terrace, Sun Prairie, WI 53590 with a memorial service to follow at 11:30 am. The family welcomes you to join them for a luncheon reception at the funeral home community room immediately following services.
