Stoughton- Dorothy E. Peterson, age 83, died peacefully, surrounded by her family on Friday, January 30, 2009, after an extended illness. Dorothy was born in Stoughton on October 18, 1925 to the late Truman and Josie (Rue) Evenson. She attended Wheeler Prairie and Pleasant Hill rural grade schools and graduated from Stoughton High School in 1943. She married Warren R. Peterson on August 2, 1947. She worked for a Madison insurance agency for a few years and then was bookkeeper for her husband's business, Peterson Cement. Dorothy enjoyed spending time with her family. She was a long time member of First Lutheran Church. She is survived by her husband, Warren, of Stoughton; her four children, David (Karon), of Madison, Margo Reese, of Madison, Susan (Dale) Stiklestad, of Stoughton, and Nancy (Dennis) Lee of Dane; seven grandchildren, Erik and Nicole Peterson, Kevin and Brian Stiklestad, Scott, Sarah, and Mark Lee; three great-granddaughters, and a brother-in-law, Leonard Swingen. She was preceded in death by her parents; a sister, June Swingen; son-in-law, Kenneth Reese; and brother-in-law, Glenn Peterson. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, February 3, 2009 at 11:00 am at First Lutheran Church, 310 E. Washington St., Stoughton, with the Rev. Sara K. Peterson Ehrets officiating. Burial will follow at Eastside Cemetery in Stoughton. The family will greet friends at church on Tuesday from 10am until the time of service. Memorials may be made in Dorothy's name to HospiceCare, or to the Alzheimer's Association.
