MADISON--Dorothy Belle (Popke) Teschendorf, age 93, passed away on July 3, 2018 at Waunakee Manor in Waunakee, Wis. Dorothy was born May 22, 1925 in Birnamwood, Wis. to Walter E. and Orma M. (St. Thomas) Popke. Dorothy attended New London High School and graduated from Oshkosh State Teachers College (now UW-Oshkosh) with a degree in Education (Biology, Chemistry and History) in 1948.
Dorothy taught science at Barneveld High School in the mid-1960's. Dorothy provided foster and day care for many years. Dorothy tutored many international students in English and taught them to play two-handed Sheepshead. Dorothy always carried treats in her pockets for the neighborhood dogs.
Dorothy is survived by sons, Glenn (Mary Anne Derheimer), Gale (Lisa Godsey) and Kevin. Dorothy had eight grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
Dorothy was preceded in death by sons Daryl and Lee (Gertrude "Trudy" Trochta) and by her daughter Mercy (Lee) Martin (nee Lorna Teschendorf).
A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. on Sunday August 12, 2018 at Mount Olive Lutheran Church 110 N. Whitney Way, Madison. A visitation with the family will be held from 12:30 p.m. at the church. Committal will be Sunday, October 14, 2018 at 1:15 p.m. at Floral Hill Cemetery, 1210 W Beckert Rd, New London, WI.
