Douglas F. Fuson, (80), of Middleton, Wisconsin, passed away on March 16th, 2024. Doug was an intelligent, kind, funny, creative person who was never bored–and never boring. He was a good man who worked hard to take care of those he loved and volunteered his time/expertise his entire life. Doug was born to Helen and William Fuson on January 19th, 1944 in Ann Arbor, Michigan, growing up in Richmond, Indiana. He graduated from Westtown Friends, Oberlin College, and University of Chicago Law School. Doug became a partner at the Chicago firm of Sidley Austin, where he practiced as a litigator and committed many hours to their pro bono program. He married his beloved wife, Bernadette Nottling, on May 9th, 1980 in Evanston, Illinois. Doug’s passion for learning continued beyond his law career and often involved hands-on work. He spent some years raising sheep, found woodworking, and eventually his greatest interest, woodturning. Doug became an accomplished wood turner and took pride in the beautiful creations he sold to the public and gifted to his loved ones. He was a long time member of Badger Wood Turners and an active member of the Bodgery Maker Space in Madison, WI. Doug loved playing racquetball at Harbor Athletic Club and climbing at Boulders. Doug is survived and missed by his wife, Bernie, and his children Adrienne Fuson, Erica Fuson, Bruce Paluch, and Philip Thorp, and his siblings Fran and Michael Fuson. Doug enjoyed spending time with his seven grandchildren and traveled to many countries to do so. The grandchildren, all fortunate to have known him, are Asha Fuson, Emma Paluch, Samantha Satir, Kira Paluch, Olive Thorp, Frances Shapiro and Albert Thorp. Doug was preceded in death by his parents and his beloved brother, Jeffrey Fuson.
The family would like to thank all the kind people who helped and the Agrace Home Hospice team. Doug had chosen cremation and there will be an Informal Visitation gathering at Cress Funeral Home, 6021 University Ave Madison, Wisconsin, on Monday April 8th, 2024 at 11a.m.
