Madison-Douglas S. Terhune, Sr., age 96 passed away on Friday, November 6, 2009 at the HospiceCare Center, Fitchburg. He was born on May 5, 1913 in New Jersey the son of Stephen A. & Mary Ellen (Hoagland) Terhune. Douglas was united in marriage to Katherine Blackwell on October 3, 1937 and they enjoyed 58 years of marriage until her death on October 4, 1994. He graduated from Rider College and was employed by American Cyanamid Company. Upon retirement from there he served as the Hopewell Borough Clerk for 12 years. Doug was also organist and choir director at Grace St. Paul's Episcopal Church, Mercerville, for 42 years. He was a longtime resident of New Jersey and for the past couple of years has been a resident at Oakwood Village East in Madison. He enjoyed his stay in the Madison area which enabled him to spend time with his great grandchild Madison and to be a part of his son's music career. He is survived by his son, Douglas (Karen) Terhune, Jr., Sun Prairie; his daughter, Susan (William) Athas, Dumfries, VA; his granddaughters, Cindy (Ian) Melrose, Jackie Terhune, Sandy Terhune, Christi (Jared) Spencer and Alyssa (Chris) Boyd; his great grandchildren, Preston, Parker & Hannah Spencer and Madison Melrose. Besides his wife he was preceded in death by his parents, brothers, William & Edward and a sister, Frances Conover. A Memorial service was held on Wednesday, November 11, 2009 at 11:00 a.m. at the Tree of Life Chapel, Oakwood Village East, 5565 Tancho Dr., Madison with Rev. Doug Locken officiating.  Â
A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, December 5, 2009, at 3:00 p. m. at the Blawenburg Reformed Church in Blawenburg, New Jersey, with the Reverend Richard VanDorn officiating. In lieu of flowers, contributions to the Blawenburg Church Memorial Fund, POBox 266, Blawenburg, NJ, 08504, or to the Hopewell Public Library, 13 East Broad Street, Hopewell, NJ, 08525, would be appreciated.
