Duane Skaar passed away on January 28, 2024 at 90 years of age. He was born to Neli and Myrtle (Olson) Skaar on June 8, 1933, at Stoughton Hospital. He was able to roller skate to the one room school at Nora prior to attending and graduating from Stoughton High School in 1951. He was a lifelong member of West Koshkonong Lutheran Church.
Duane married Dorothy Marty on June 8, 1957. Together they raised two sons, David and Dale. Duane farmed all his life and had a great work ethic. He believed in working hard and playing harder. He enjoyed raising sweetcorn for friends, neighbors, and the local food pantry. He was always there to help when people were sick, injured, or in need.
He enjoyed Home Talent baseball, horse pulls, polka dancing with all the girls, and watching sports and Mollie B on TV. Over the years he raised many animals – Belgian draft horses, coon dogs, and beagles. When he was young, he rode his pony to Grandma Mary Olson’s farm and often spoke about the food and the lefsa he loved.
He wanted to pay tribute to Art Kirch Sr., Isreal (Izzy) Ocequera, Linda Skaar, Stanley (Stub) Lund, Dan Kalscheur, Denny Rahn, and Steve (Sodball) Sordahl.
Duane was preceded in death by his parents, his brother and sister-in-law James and Nola Skaar, and brother-in-law John Martin. Left to mourn him are his wife Dorothy, sons David and Dale (Linda) Skaar, Rory and Kimberly McAloon, great grandson Aiden McAloon, sister Marlene Martin and sister-in-law Helen Kirch and many other friends and relatives.
Per Duane’s wishes, we are foregoing the traditional visitation and funeral services. We invite you to attend the regular Sunday service at West Koshkonong Lutheran Church, 1911 Koshkonong Road, Stoughton on February 18, 2024, at 9:30 a.m. We will have a catered coffee hour after the service in the church basement. Memorials are discouraged – please consider planting a tree in Duane’s name.
The family wishes to thank so many people for visiting and sharing so many memories recently – Rainbow Hospice, family, neighbors, and friends. He so appreciated and enjoyed all of them.
Dance, laugh, play, and live life to its fullest.
Please share your memories of Duane by posting in his Guestbook.
