Dwight Poore

Dwight Poore was born June 4, 1951, in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. Passed away on May 8, 2022, at the age of 70. Beloved big brother of Ellen Poore, Carol Ferraro, and Ralph (Beth Twardowski) Poore. Beloved uncle of Amanda (Shiva) Horiuchi and Kristen Twardowski. Dwight was preceded in death by his parents, Wesley and Clara (Kester) Poore and brother-in-law, John Ferraro.

Dwight was a UW Madison graduate and had a long career working for the State of Wisconsin, where he was a highly skilled computer programmer, database specialist, and consultant.  He made several lifelong friendships while working for the Department of Workforce Development.  He was always happy to share his knowledge and wisdom with friends in “Dwight’s Lunch Bunch”. He loved music and curated an extensive personal collection of Jazz, Classic rock, and Classical recordings.  He had encyclopedic knowledge of World War II history and built a significant collection of books and vintage magazines on his favorite topics: history, aeronautics, politics, economics, and international motion picture history.  He regularly attended film festivals, especially those at UW Madison.  While in high school and college, he was active in acting and singing in local theater groups.

He was a loving brother, son, uncle, cousin, and nephew, always going the extra mile to support and care for his family, especially his parents and siblings.  Dwight was a gentle soul and was known by his friends and family as a warm, intelligent, and caring person.  He will be missed by all who knew him.

A visitation for Dwight will be held on Saturday, June 25 at CRESS FUNERAL HOME, 3610 Speedway Rd., Madison, from 1-3 pm.   Memories will shared at 3 pm.   Please share your memories at www.cressfuneralservice.com
