Edgar Jaeckel

Sun Prairie - Edgar Jaeckel, age 85, passed away on Tuesday, November 15, 2011 while at Oakwood Village East.
Edgar was born on April 25, 1926, the son of Fred and Anna (Luebke) Jaeckel. He later married Gladys Jaeckel on April 24, 1954 in the Reeseville area.
Edgar worked for over 40 years in the Operating Engineers Local #139 Union , as a heavy machine operator before retiring from Speedway Sand and Gravel. He enjoyed working in his shop, where he would do welding, making concrete lawn ornaments and doing small engine repairs. He also enjoyed gardening, Polka dancing with his wife and working with his horse and buggies so he could participate in parades.
Edgar was also known as the "Honeyman" in many farmer market circles. As a 4th generation bee keeper, Edgar regularly attended the Sun Prairie, McFarland, Waunakee, Stoughton and Jefferson farmer markets and was still selling honey to over 5 different stores.
Edgar is survived by his two children, Steven (Carol) Jaeckel and Debra (Rex) Porter; 6 grandchildren, Corey Jaeckel, Ryan McKittrick, Heather (Edward) Nagel, Kevin Porter, Rebecca Porter and Christina Porter; 1 great granddaughter, Rylee; a brother, Arnold Jaeckel; a sister, Anna Reich and several nieces and nephews.
Edgar was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Gladys on February 16, 2004 and four brothers, Raymond, Elmer, Herman and Richard.
In lieu of flowers, memorials can be directed to the family in Edgar's memory.
Funeral services will be held at Peace Evangelical Lutheran Church , 232 Windsor Street , Sun Prairie WI on Tuesday, November 22, 2011 at 11:00 AM. A visitation will be held on Monday, November 21, 2011 from 4:00 to 7:00 PM at the Cress Funeral Home, 1310 Emerald Terrace in Sun Prairie and also at the church on Tuesday from 10:00 AM until the time of service. Burial will conclude at Evergreen Cemetery in Ft. Atkinson on Tuesday at 2:00 PM.
