Edna Sand

August 24, 1912 — January 6, 2012

Stoughton- Edna Juliette Kaupanger Sand, age 99, passed away at Skaalen Home in Stoughton on Friday, January 6, 2012. Edna was born in rural Stoughton, Dane County, Wisconsin to Nels and Emma (Aas) Kaupanger on August 24, 1912. She was baptized, confirmed and married in Stoughton's Christ Lutheran Church where she was a member of Bethany Circle and the Quilters group for many years. She attended rural grade school and Stoughton High School graduating in 1931. She graduated from Rock County Normal in Janesville and taught county school at Mount Pleasant, Edgerton, Wisconsin for five years and one year at London State Graded School, London, WI. They enjoyed years of fishing in Canada and years of watching all sports. In 1961 the Twins baseball team and the Vikings football team came to Minneapolis and they eagerly became season ticket holders for both. She had seen 21 World Series games (all 7 of the Minnesota Twins and Los Angeles games in 1965) and numerous football play-off games. She loved to travel and since her husband was a Eureka College of Illinois classmate of President Ronald Reagan graduating together in 1932, she and Henry attended the first Inaugural Ball as guest of the Reagans and enjoyed many visits with "Dutch" and Nancy. Edna was honored with an honorary degree from the Eureka College in recognition of many years of support. In 1967 she and Henry retired and spent 26 winters in Florida, returning to Vennevoll for the summers where she continued her interests in needlepoint and hardanger. She is survived by a sister, Beatrice Bublitz of Stoughton; special nieces and nephews Kathryn (Pat) Shelley, Sun Prairie; Jane (Michael) Cleary, California; Jeffrey (Barbara) Bublitz, Edgerton; grand nieces and nephews, Lynn (William) Panton, Kevin (Sandra) Shelley, Deanne (Steven) Rohde, Tim (Valerie) Cleary, Erin (Jeremy) Saunders, Jessica Noggle, Jarrod (Stacey) Bublitz, Jacqueline (Travis) Thompson, Jamie Bublitz; and other nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
