Edward Murphy, age 89, of Madison, passed away on Friday, July 22, 2022, at Badger Prairie Health Care Center in Verona, WI after a long battle with Alzheimer’s. He was born on January 26, 1933, in La Crosse, WI the son of Marcella and Edward Murphy, the second youngest of eight children. Edward was married on December 28, 1955, to Marilyn Love also of LaCrosse.
Edward served honorably in the Marine Corps during the Korean War, receiving 2 Purple Hearts as part of his service. He followed his military service with college studies at UW LaCrosse and UW Madison, receiving a Bachelor's degree in history and political science.
After graduation, he worked for many years at OHMEDA Medical, retiring early to enjoy traveling with his wife, Marilyn. Ed loved to work with his hands and over time successfully built, remodeled, and sold homes in both Madison and in Florida.
He is survived by his wife Marylin Murphy, his three children, eight grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his son Matthew, his parents, and his seven siblings.
The family wants to give special thanks to the wonderful staff at Badger Prairie Health Care Center for the outstanding care he received during the last years of his life.
A memorial service will be held at Cress Funeral Home, 3610 Speedway Rd., Madison on Saturday, August 13, 2022, at 1:00 pm. Visitation will be from 12:00 noon until the time of services. Burial will occur at an alternate date for close family only.
