Edward G. Parisi, age 84, passed away peacefully on Friday, December 9, 2011 at Agrace HospiceCare surrounded with the love of his wife and many friends. He was born August 16, 1927 the son of Sam and Thea (Elverthum) Parisi in Madison. Ed "Chow" Parisi grew up at 1 South Murray Street in the Greenbush neighborhood. He attended Longfellow Grade School and Central High School, graduating in 1945. In February 1949 he enlisted in the Army and served three years in Europe prior to an Honorable Discharge in 1952. After his marriage, he rented a house on Bowen Court and after several moves, bought a home on Knickerbocker Street in Madison.
Chow enjoys his membership in the Madison Elks, VFW #1318 as a Life Member, Midvale Community Lutheran Church, and remains an active member of the Italian Workmen's Club. On March 28, 1984, Chow and Edna Meier Riley were married in Las Vegas, a place they enjoyed re-visiting during the years that followed and, in recent years, occasionally visit Wisconsin Casinos. They became members of the Italian Dance group when Jimmy Capacio was in charge, and enjoyed performing in Madison as well as traveling to dance at out-of-town celebrations. Chow also made sure he set aside time to ice fish, and to bowl well enough to appreciate well-earned trophies, as well as time to play golf with Edna. Together they enjoy the IWC's annual Festa Italia and other IWC social events.
"Chow" was employed by the City of Madison Parks Department from 1955 to 1989, working golf courses during the summer months, and parks during the winter that included toboggan slides, ice rinks, and warming houses. Edward is survived by his wife Edna, daughter Gina (Rick) Blackman, son Sam Parisi, several grandchildren, and a step daughter Kathy Gargano. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Ann Vitali. A memorial service will be held at 2:00 pm on Friday, December 16, 2011 at MIDVALE COMMUNITY LUTHERAN CHURCH, 4329 Tokay Blvd., Madison, WI 53711, with visitation from 1:00 pm until the time of service at the church. Inurnment will be private.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Midvale Community Lutheran Church, or Agrace HospiceCare Inc.
