Edwin F. Maier

Maier, Edwin F. of Waunakee/Cross Plains, age 92, died on Monday, Aug. 12, 2024.

He was born on Dec. 5, 1931 in Martinsville, the son of John and Rose (Endres) Maier.

Edwin worked as a farm hand until he was drafted into the U.S. Army, serving during the Korean conflict. He received his G. E. D. from Madison Area Technical College and continued to further his education following his years of service. Ed married Louise Kalscheur on May 5, 1959 at St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church in Cross Plains. Ed was a member of Iron Workers Local 383 for a number of years, and then was employed with U.S. Postal Service until his retirement. He enjoyed playing cards and watching most sports after retiring.

Ed is survived by his daughter-in-law, Allisa Maier-Kleinfeldt of Windsor; his granddaughters, Alexandra Maier (Ben Wright) of Brookfield, WI and Katrina Maier of DeForest; 2 great-grandchildren; his brother, Joseph and sister-in-law, Joan Maier of Madison. He is further survived by his Kalscheur family; Jean Pelehach of Sandusky, Ohio, Don (Toni) Kalscheur of Sun Lakes, AZ, Marge (Bill) Stern and Tim (Denise) Kalscheur of Madison; and many nieces and nephews.

 He was preceded in death by his wife, Louise; sons, Gary and Terry; his parents; brothers, Norbert (Geri), Harold, Elmer, Jerome and John; sisters, Marion (Louis) Block, Elizabeth and Rose (Valentine) Ballweg; and brothers-in-law, Bill Kalscheur (Marge) and Frank Pelehach.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, 209 South St., Waunakee on Wed.Aug.21, 2024 at 11:00 a.m. Friends may call at the church on Wednesday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of services. Burial will take place at 2:30 p.m. at St. Xavier Catholic Cemetery in Cross Plains.
