Sun Prairie - Eileen B. Loftus, age 86 passed away on Monday, August 29, 2016. She was born on December 29, 1929, in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, the daughter of John G. and Mary I. (Mitten) Brophy.
Eileen graduated from Cardinal Stritch University in Milwaukee with a degree in teaching, she then moved to Sun Prairie, where her career began at Sun Prairie High School as a history teacher. One of her students, Jerry Loftus, introduced her to the love of her life, Leonard Loftus. Jerry was not only Eileen's student but also Leonard's niece. On August 6, 1955, Eileen was united in marriage to Leonard Loftus in Milwaukee. Eileen's love and passion was teaching. She taught at Sun Prairie High School for 38 years until her retirement. Eileen touched many lives in her 86 years. She will be dearly missed by everyone who knew and loved her.
Eileen is survived by two daughters; Paula (Tim) Merry of Germantown and Leigh Ann (Eric) Pomraning of Verona, three grandchildren; Joshua (Kristin) Merry, Kyle Merry and Jenna Merry, great grandson; William Merry, a brother; Father John Brophy, two sisters; Luanne Schipper and Marie (Ken) Retzer, two nieces; Ann Marie Retzer and Marilu Retzer and a nephew; Greg (Amy) Retzer.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband Leonard Loftus and brother-in-law Jerome Schipper.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at SACRED HEART CATHOLIC CHURCH, 221 Columbus Street, Sun Prairie on Friday, September 2, 2016, at 6:00 pm with Father John Brophy and Monsignor Duane Moellenberndt presiding. A time to gather will be held on Friday from 4:00 pm until the time of Mass. Private family graveside services will be held at Sacred Heart Catholic Church Cemetery, Sun Prairie on Saturday, September 3, 2016. In memory of Eileen, memorials may be made to Sacred Hearts of Jesus & Mary School Endowment Fund, 221 Columbus Street, Sun Prairie, Wisconsin 53590.
The family wishes to thank Aster Place Retirement Center and Agrace HospiceCare for the love, attention, and care given to Eileen. The family would also like to extend a special thank you to Shirley Wolfgram and Jerry Wagner for their incredible kindness and help over the past few years, as well as Verna Bedner and Velda Thompson for their unconditional friendship of many years.
