Sun Prairie - C. Elaine (Dutcher) Allen, age 97 passed away on December 15, 2015 in Madison, Wisconsin.
She was born in Fredericksburg, Iowa on February 24, 1918- the second child of parents Ernest Earl Dutcher, Sr. and Eva Amanda Perry Dutcher.
When she was five months old, her parents moved the family to Parrish Junction, Enterprise Township, Oneida County, Wisconsin, where she grew up. She attended school in Enterprise from first through tenth grades. She attended Rhinelander High School her junior and senior years, graduating in 1935.

That Fall she began her teaching career in East DePere where she taught sixth, seventh and eighth grades (departmentalized) for four years. She continued her teaching career and her further education at a later date.
It was war time. She became engaged to be married, so she moved to Ogden, Utah where, to assist with the war effort and while awaiting her marriage, she worked at Hill Airforce Base near Ogden.
On August 24, 1942, she married William Lewis Allen of Tremonton, Utah, in the Salt Lake City Temple, Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. Her husband returned from the South Pacific Theater of war in the summer of 1945. The war ended and the couple resumed their marriage- bearing two sons-
David Lee in 1946 and Daniel Dee in 1951.
After ten years of a rocky, unhappy marriage and in the best interest of her children, she divorced her husband and, at the urging of her parents and brothers, moved back to Wisconsin in 1953. She resumed her teaching career and education. She taught in Poynette for 14 years and in Sun Prairie for 16 years. During this time, she continued her education by attending summer school, earning her Bachelors' Degree from Eau Claire State Teachers College and her Masters from the University of Wisconsin.
